Whitewater Wins DNR Grant

The Whitewater Urban Forestry Commission (UFC) has won a $25,000 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Urban Forestry Grant—in support of the development of the Arboretum At Starin Park (AASP). These DNR grants are competitive, and Whitewater was one of approximately 8 statewide 2022 winners of the $25,000 award.

DNR urban forestry grants are designed to support new, innovative projects that will develop sustainable urban and community forestry programs. They range from $1,000 to $25,000 and require a 50–50 match.

Grant winners must initially fund 100% of project costs with cash, in-kind contributions and/or donations. Tremendous support from the people of Whitewater has made this match possible. Individuals, neighborhood associations, businesses, the Whitewater Community Foundation, and the City of Whitewater, along with many volunteers, have stepped in to help. (More information about the Arboretum’s tremendous partners will be coming soon.)

Huge thanks to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for believing in the idea of the Arboretum At Starin Park! And to the people of Whitewater!
